"Until now we have cherished ourself above all others, and for as long as we
continue to do this our suffering will never end. However, if we learn to
cherish all beings more than ourself we shall soon enjoy the bliss of
enlightenment."
- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Compassion Buddhist Centre is a non profit organisation that was founded by Geshe
Kelsang Gyatso in Newcastle in 1996. It is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition -
International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU).
We run study programs and meditation classes as well as various special events
throughout the year. We also hold regular chanted meditations and retreats.
Refuge Retreat
11th – 17th May 2008
We spend a vast amount of our precious time and energy on changing external conditions in order to protect us from suffering. No matter how often we change our surroundings, friends, partner or job, we will still suffer. By learning correct methods to change our mind we can protect ourselves from all suffering no matter what happens in the external world.
This retreat will be led by Compassion Centre's resident teacher, Kelsang Sherab. He will guide us from his own experience towards finding a reliable and lasting source of protection, and ever increasing peace and happiness.
